“Play is the primary language of children and for traumatised children play is their talk and toys are their words"

Paris Goodyear-Brown

I began my career thirty years ago after university, working in marketing and fundraising for the NSPCC and this started a lifelong interest in working with children and in the field of mental health. A move to Cape Town led to a change of direction, where I worked as a professional artist and art teacher and also completed an Art Therapy Foundation.

In 2009 I began training as an adult psychotherapist at the Bath Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy, and worked as a psychotherapist-in-training in private practice, as well as in placement at a charity supporting individuals and families affected by inter-generational abuse and neglect. After four years of work and study I decided to combine my passion for art with working with children and families. Following a further three years of specific child-orientated study, I qualified as an Integrative Child Counsellor at The Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education (IATE), where I was awarded Distinction, and am now a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

Throughout my own journey I have benefitted from the practice of mindfulness meditation, and I recently undertook further training with Mindfulness UK to enable me to teach mindfulness and compassion practices to others.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and am bound by their ethical framework for the counselling professions and professional conduct procedure. I ensure that I have regular supervision, keep my knowledge and skills up-to-date with continuing professional development (CPD), have professional indemnity insurance and am DBS checked.
